Timothy J. Patterson is a Cloud and Virtualization Systems Engineer, currently working at ProQuest out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Focused primarily on Amazon Web Services and VMware technologies, Tim is currently in possession of the VCAP5-DCA, VCAP5-DCD, and VCP5-DCV technical certifications from VMware. Additionally, Tim has earned the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS SysOps Associate, and AWS Developer Associate certifications from Amazon. Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Saginaw Valley State University in Computer Information Systems.

Tim is a 2014 VMware vExpert, the winner of the 2nd season of the Virtual Design Master community competition, and is a VCDX hopeful, aiming for completion in 2015.

Tim has held various roles through the years. Previously working for Liquid Web, Inc. as a Systems Engineer, focusing on engineering feats surrounding their proprietary public cloud infrastructure, Storm on Demand; and Saginaw Valley State University as a Sr. Systems Administrator.

Throughout his career, Tim has gained over 10 years of direct hands-on experience working with ever changing and emerging AWS technologies, VMware products, Linux and open source software, Microsoft products, and Mac OS X systems. He is very familiar with other hypervisors and cloud computing platforms, and his professional interests include: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Ceph, OpenStack, Puppet, KVM, Xen, and Hyper-V.

In addition to working for ProQuest, Tim also provides VMware and other general IT consulting services to small organizations and non-profit organizations; working under the umbrella of his consulting business, Pc-Professionals.

Tim is a dedicated father of two beautiful daughters, and a devoted husband to the best wife any person could ever ask for. Tim’s family serves as a constant source of inspiration, driving him to move towards both his professional and personal goals.

Tim’s future goals are to give more back to the AWS & VMware communities, as well as reaching towards the VCDX-DCV certification.
